I have one for about a year now and he has a lot of black on him is that normal? I see all these other pictures of other ones and there bright blue

Very normal, especially after a year.
Their black patterns ebb and flow, here are some pics of mine to show you what I mean:
When I first got him (plenty of black pattern):
