Ok this is my dillemma I have a 3g and a 5g with one male betta each and have noticed algae on the gravel and glass of the aquariums. I do wipe it off when I do a PWC but it grows back. Since I can't put a algae eater in with the betta in fear it would kill it how do I get rid of the algae? On the glass it looks green on the gravel brown.:help:

Well, do the usual.

Turn the lights off..ect. for 12 hours a day. Make sure you aren't really over feeding, and my mom keeps snails in her betta tank to help with that. They don't bother each other, but every betta is different =]

I had an insane outbreak of algae in my little betta tank, and with a water change and soaking of plants and deco, it hasn't been back. That was about 2 weeks ago. I cleaned the sides too with the magnet algae cleaner to help keep it from spreading again.

Good Luck!

Ghost shrimp are also good cleaner buddies for bettas.

:) Thanks I have to get an algae scraper and will continue to use good old elbow grease I do clean the plants as well I have artificial in the tanks. I just don't know enough to do a planted tank. I only keep the lights on the evening on all my tanks now when I get home from work for a few hours. I used to keep them on like 12 hrs could be the reason why the algae grew.

Good choice on the lights being off. 12 hrs is way to much.
