I got the idea from another thread... Sounds really interesting.

Thanks

I just bought a 75 and am looking to start out with black sand substrate as well. Anybody have any experience with this stuff:

Medium Glass Bead Blasting Abrasive

Glass Bead is used in creating a satin or matte finish. This abrasive is recommended in blast rooms or cabinets because of its high cost. 25 lbs. bag.

Black Diamond Blasting Abrasive

Works with all blasting equipment to remove paint and rust or to clean brick and stone. 30-60 fine grit. Safe and cleaner to use. Offers an 80% recoop of material that does not absorb water. U.S.A.

i would really like to know if the black diamond is safe for a tank, that stuff looks too good to be true for a person who wants a black substrate, i mean come on a 50 lb bag for $6.

I went to the store and got some of the black diamond. it is a bit coarser than sand but much heavier. I put some in the water and it sinks right away much faster than sand. I am going to let it sit in the water over night and see what it does to the ph and hardness. I went on the manufactures website and pulled the MSDS sheet and it says it is coal slag with silica mixed in.

BTW the website says it comes in much bigger grit sizes.
