I have been posting a huge quantity of threads over the past few days, apologese for hasseling but I want to be a sponge to the wealth of experience that you guys can provide.

The guy who has given me the 260gal tank is going to leave the sub in the tank has been sat empty or nearly empty for the last two to three weeks. Would it be worth buying the sand still or would you carry on with what he has left in.

If so can you wash it out at all with tap water prior to putting it back in, just thinking to get rid of some of the waste?

If the sand has dried out, you could and IMO should rinse it lightly to remove some of the detritus that has accumulated in it over time. I wouldn't rinse it too heavily though, as you don't want to rinse away the finer sand particles.

Yeah just lightly rinse it with RO/DI water if it is dry.

I would go new If it is REALLY OLD it may not buffer as well as new would. But you could just mix in a medium size bag of new stuff to save some money. If you are not sure it's good sand (some people skimp and use play sand) then I would just change it all to be safe.
