somebody asked me recently why live foods are superior to frozen and all I could come up with was a vague reference to "lving enzymes" and reduced vitamin content in frozen... had to admit I dont know much beyond that...

Didn't find anything conclusive on the internet..except that most agree live foods are superior....

question is why exactly?

Thanks

They are and they aren't. While most live foods do have greater nutritional content than other foods, frozens still do keep most of they have, if not all. Also, frozens are generally parasite and disease free. A huge benefit if you've ever had leeches or other in your tank. That being said, live foods are great when a fish won't eat or when breeding conditions need to be simulated. Many fish won't spawn without something swimming around to eat. So they both have their place. I personally don't bother with live unless the above conditions came up.
