View Full Version : keeping things cool

My target temperature for my fish and plants is 25*C. Yet I am always reading 26-28*+. The room temperature is mid 70s F, so obviously the lights are the problem. The light hood is vented and the tank is covered by glass - maybe the trapped air heats up and heats the water. But I would have thought that all of the tank's sides being exposed to 24-25*C air would cool things off plenty. Not so.

Please don't tell me I need a $$$ chiller - I have looked at prices. The reason I am concerned about a couple of degrees is the plants. I just had to remove the cardamine - I assume because of the temperature thing. My corkscrew vals look thin and weak - could that be temp related too? My iron level is fine. I understand that Didiplis Diandra might be high temp sensitive too.

some specs:
220W cf on 75g
Ehiem 2026 (heater in canister set for around 24*C)
