View Full Version : Yo Yo Loach..
How big do they get? Are they as sensitive as the Clown Loach? Do they eat snails too?
Thanks.

One of my yoyos is approaching 6"...I don't think they are as sensitive as Clowns, but I could be wrong..I'm just speculating. They do enjoy a good snack of snails just like most all of the botias.

I've heard that Yoyos are actually less sensitive than Clowns and can be kept solitarily more easily, but it is not recommended to test these conjectures!

Yoyos are quite hardy but a single fish will almost always annoy/irritate other fish.I have kept them in the past and found them to be nippy.I have one just now that I inherited and the only reason I'm not trading him in is because I would have to practically tear the tank apart to get him.I first placed him in my planted tank and when he was small he was no bother at all.But as he grew he would single out a certian fish and just follow it about at first then gradually bite at them, this really stressed out the other fish. When he wnt into my big tank he hid for ages but hes now big enough to be accepted but has began following one of my pl*cos(which is not impressed but gives as good as he gets).Im either going to get trade him in, get another yoyo or get a similar marked loach(I seen som nice queen zebra loaches).

I have a lone yoyo loach in my 55 gal planted tank along with various other tropical fish including angels. I have had him for 2 years and he is still only 3 inches long. I originally bought 2 but the other died. He has been a bit nippy, but less agressive than my rhino pleco and certainly not to the point where it is a problem. I just added two very similiar loaches (golden zebra loaches) and since then he has actually become very shy. Now it spends a lot of time hiding in a crack in driftwood. Perhaps mine is a very mild mannered one though.
Strange that he is only 3 inches long after 2 years? Are they a very slow growing fish? Do they not always attain full size in captivity, such as clown loaches?
How much did you all pay for yours? I payed $7 a piece, and that was with a discount.
Another customer there talked me into buying them, he loves his. He told me that his are 'playful' with each other. Said they were fun to watch, and that the are good snail eaters.
I think they are pretty cool myself.
And thanks for the replies ya'll.

TBH, I don't remember what I paid for mine....I bought them over two years ago when they were about 2-3" long. I think I paid around $4-5 for them.
