Now that its all over its actually pretty funny. So I figured I could tell you guys about it so you can all laugh at me.
Ok, so I drive to class yesterday, its about a 15 minute drive. I get there and open my tool bag, and I see that my $70 TIG torch is missing. After searching for a while I realize that I had left it at class the night before. So no big deal, my teacher always checks through the welding booths every night before he leaves and picks up anything somebody may have left in there by mistake. But wait, he wasn't there yesterday, we had a sub. Did the sub pick it up by chance? No. My $70 torch is nowhere to be found. Great. Just what I need to happen when I literally only have $50 in my bank account...
So I decide maybe I will just do some stick pipe welding. I need to get that certification anyway. But wait, I left my leather sleeves at home. Now I was not about to weld without them and get my arms burned all to hell. So I drive home to go get them. 1/2 hour later I get back to class. This time I have everything. So I go cut my pipe, bevel it, and get it all ready to be welded. It is now getting close to 9pm. Keep it mind class started at 7:15 pm and I still have not ran a single bead.
I get my spacers on, the pipe is clamped together, I go turn on and set my machine to the proper settings, grab a handful of 6010 electrodes, and turn on my auto darkening welding hood. But wait, its not turning on. I push the button again. Nothing. By this time I am really getting P-Oed. So I take the whole thing apart and clean all the crap out of it, put it back together, hit the button again, halelujia! The light flashed, its on! But wait, the light only flashed once, its supposed to flash 5 times. Hit the button again, and again, only one flash. So I just sit there for 10 minutes pushing the button over and over again hoping I will get the 5 flashes showing it is turned on. Finally I give up and go to a buddy who has the same hood. "What the F is up with my hood?" I ask. "Let me see." He said. So I handed him my hood, explaining what was happening. He looks at it, hits the button to see what I am talking about, and the stupid little light flashes 5 times. "Seems fine to me." He says. "F you." I say as I snatch my hood away and run into my booth to get as much welding done as I can before it dies again. But no, it worked perfectly after that, it was just trying to make me mad I guess. So finally I got to start welding at about 9:30pm. Better late than never I guess.
