What is the minimum size tank that you think could house a blood parrot for life? Just curious, I kinda like the ugly little guys :D

If just one, IMO a 75 would be the smallest. 100gal is better.

I would agree. A 75 or 90 would be Ideal. They are messy.

75 gallon is the minimum if you want them there for their whole life, but a 55 gallon could work as a temporary home for a lone blood p. for some time.

I'd prefer the 75 gal.

mine is in a 40g breeder and for its size, it is generous. i had it for 6 years. i would say a 55g is fine. a 75 would be for something like a red devil.

Go with the 75. The BPs I constantly see in the LFS love to get a good run at the powerhead current and this would give them plenty of room. Plus you would have some room for a few dithers that would make the parrots more comfortable being out in the open.

My friends roommate has two of these in a 10 gallon with a smallish cichlid and some sort of cory. The water is really hazy and one of the fish looks like something is wrong with its mouth. The fish don't look good at all!

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I don't have the space for one but someday maybe I will. I'll just have to wait and see.

Came across this old thread by accident. 300 gallon- minimum. Just kidding. Figure 30-40g for a single bp. They max out at 8-10" so I don't know what the hell people mean by 75-90g. That's big but they're not Oscars. Just make sure you have goof filtration and keep up on those weekly wc.

A 8-10" fish needs more space than a 30g IMHO. That's barely enough room to turn around...

I agree, however I felt that a 55 gallon was fine for mine, however ick got him before he got to full size.

75-90. there is no need to re-write what has been known for years.

And a 91 is better than a 90. A 75 is fine.
