Okay, I just did another water change and I rinsed my old BioBag in my old tank water and put it back in. It's starting to look a bit tattered, so I would like to change it to a new one when the month is up. My question is, I would like the NEW bag to already have established bacteria on in when I do put a new bag in there next month. How do I do this? Should I just let the new BioBag float in the water? Should I put the new BioBag in where my old filter is and the filter will have two bags in there? (though I don't think there is enough room for this)

you could put the new one in and float the other bag for a few days.

put your old biobag w/ media in the new biobag and place in filter....next month remove the old bag w/ media and pour media directly into the newer bag

Both of those method will work. You should only change it if it is falling apart. If not I'd keep the old one in. It may look nasty but it's loaded with good Bacteria.

Reddog90p: Yeah, It's starting to look like it might start to release some of the carbon soon. That would be bad, right?

Mgamer: By float you mean literally floating on the surface, right?

Madcrawdad: Wouldn't that stretch the new bag?

Madcrawdad: Wouldn't that stretch the new bag?

how big of a bag are you talking?.....if you're putting a full 8x10 bag into a 4x6 bag, I guess it would...if you're using the same size bag, I wouldn't think so...

well it will sink but just tie it up to the side of the tank.

let us know what you did and how well it worked.

Well, once I'm done giving my Black Molly and the tank an ICH treatment, then I'll add some new carbon into the old bag and let it eat up all the meds. Of course, doing a 50% water change as well at the same time. Once I'm sure that the water is clear, I'll probably let the bag hang. We'll see.

Holy smokes, I just remembered, I have another HOB Whisper 20. Can I just run a new biobag in there for a month along with my Whisper 40?

Instead of full power for my Whisper 40 I'll set it to 1/2 power and then put my Whisper 20 to full power. How's that sound?

Sure. Run both filters. That is even better then trying to stuff it all in the same filter although both methods would work.

You really do not need meds to kill that ich, just heat and salt.
