Hello. No fish, but a Welsh water supply

I am contemplating a few guppies and neons. My water supply is soft (good for neons?) but pH 7.2 (favours the guppy?)
Any potential problems/
It seems that the addition of salt is beneficial to guppies but is contraindicated for neons.
Any ideas, comments or experiences please/
