:help: I bought this tank (complete with everything) along time ago and never knew what kind of coral, and fish this is. If someone could help i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks! The fish i am wondering about is the black and white stripped one, sorry the pictures are not very clear. Also, the coral im trying to figure out is the yellow.

The fish appears to be an adult engineer goby, the coral looks like a gonipora, BUT some toadstools have that patern on the end of their polyps also. Can we get a pic of the base of the coral or a description of what it looks like when it closes.

Thanks! The coral just looks like a yellow rock when its closed, about 4" in diameter all around, and a circular but flat shape.

Thanks JoJo
I just did a little research and it is in fact a gonipora coral. Thank you!

No problem bud, thats why we are here!! Do some more searching on gonipora they have a low survival rate.
BTW: WELCOME TO AC!!!!!!

Yeah i just did a lot of reading about them, but surprisingly I've had it for over a year and no problems yet. My nitrites are at 0 and my nitrates at 20, most of the things I've been reading say they wont survive unless nitrates are at 0, but i guess i can kind of prove it wrong sense mine have always stuck around 20-25. Thanks for the outlook though! :headbang2:

Welcome to ac,
Could you tell me what lighting you are using for the aquarium and where the gonipora is placed also do you supplement the feeding.
It really is a beautifull example.

Thank you!
The lighting is a 150 watt Metal Halide 14000k, its placed middle level and off to the left in the tank, it REALLY opens up as soon as the halide starts. As far as food i don't feed it one specific thing, just add the normal chemicals although i do add PhytoMax every other day.

Here you can get a better idea of where it is placed. :)

looks like a 20 gallon high, what skimmer is that?
factorybacking

Yeah its a 20 gallon high, the skimmer is some crappy Instant Ocean Skimmer, but it has been getting its job done for the past few years, so that's all that counts. haha.

Skimmer is a seaclone skimmer...prolly a seaclone 100...

Yes indeed it is. Dont recommend anyone ever buy one of these, took me about 3 days to finally get it working, but once i did get it set, it has been doing a nice job sense, but its one of those "DONT MOVE IT WHATEVER YOU DO" types haha.

Anytime! Im trying to upgrade to an acrylic tank with built in overflow so i can finally run a refugium underneath (trying to get my nitrates down below 5, have not been able to get below 20 in the past 2 years), but its not very easy finding a 20 gallon like that, i came across a guy selling one a few weeks ago, but when i went to buy it, he had already sold it :mad2: Just my luck! Once i do get that going, that skimmers being tosed out the door, and hello ASM G1. I would have all that running right now sense i already have the refugium, ASM protein skimmer, hose and return pump, if i could only find the right 20 gallon acrylic tank. Any suggestions on where to go about finding one?!

why dont you buy a drilled 20 gallon glass? Or drill it yourself

I guess i could, but personally i prefer acrylic, not sure why. Also, the tank i have now has a tempered glass bottom, so i cant drill it, i could drill the back, but i want the drain to go straight to the refigrum out the bottom.

A few mod's and it can actually be a lot better skimmer...

Another question. I've had my clown fish now for a good 7 months, he hasn't tried to host anything, is that normal? He LOVES swimming around everywhere, never seems to settle down, i've been told to get an anemone for him, but i dont want to go down the anemone road as my tanks only a 20 gallon and honestly just dont want something thats going to be stinging all my other fish, any suggestions?

Thanks jojo, i wasnt to concerned about its health or anything, sense i have had him for quite some time and he's been swimming like hes happy, just want to make sure its not demanded that i do have some kind of anemone.
