I want to finally try my hand at a planted tank. I'm going to use my 60 gallon and one of the filters is a Penguin (I forgot which model but its the biggest one). I know that the penguin causes so much diffusion because of the way it's design. I like the look of Honrwort and read its a good novice plant. My question is do I absolutely HAVE to get rid of the penguin filter or can the Hornwort possibly survive with it? Anybody ever try it?

yes it can be fine. what i do is tie it up to the other end so the filter isnt pushing it down. i use fishline to keep it in its place.

alright i was just worried about too much oxygen from the penguin. anyway what do you tie yours to?

no you dont have to worry about too much o2. different tanks i do different things. i had some in my 20 gal until the java moss took over it was tied to the light in the middle in front of the out put of the ac filter. other tanks i have used the glass lid to old the line in place.

you can just let it float around if you want but i like more control then that.

I will probably plant mine if I can figure out how to do it :)

thats another option. i have done that also tied it down in the middle and it grows up like a stem plant. there are many options with hornwort.

I think I'll just leave it floating and if I don't like it I'll tie them down. My nitrate levels have been higher than optimal and the hornwort w/ regular water changes should help out.

I don`t bother planting it in the gravel. Can also just wedge it under a rock.

really? and it does not die? I was thinking of tying it to something like a pot, or log.
