Extra tanks - no place to setup :(

I had a tank as a child and all of my fish lived, never had any diseases, everyone seemed happy. I knew nothing about cycling tanks, etc. and I have no idea how those poor fish survived my 'tender loving care'.

Now I research, ask questions, research some more, and still I can't seem to get it right.

I bought a few plants and put them in the tank. They started to grow nicely then I noticed something else in the tank - Surprise ..... Snails.

Don't get me wrong I like snails, but there were hundreds of them. Tiny little things. I spent more time trying to get them out of filter intakes, saving them from the dreaded 'Python' and such than I really should have, but that is just me.

Then I noticed little spots on one of my fish. Ich.....Great - another surprise.

So now I have been treating the main tank for Ich for a little over a week. I moved all of my plants and what snails I could find into the QT. I have not put any medication in the QT, just using high temps (90 F.). I was hoping to leave them for a month to ensure that any Ich was dead from not having a host as well as the high temps. I put a little plant fertilizer in the water today and took a look at the plants....

Surprise....there are baby fish swimming around in the QT. They are so tiny that it was their movement that caught my eye. Looks like it might be Danio. The only other alternative is Head and Taillight Tetra, but I think they look like Danios.

So....back to the WC on the QT....and trying to figure out what to feed the new arrivals....

It drives me crazy....when I think the tank is healthy I find disease and when I am treating for disease I find the fish breeding.....

Oh and by the way....looks like at least one more Danio is going to be a Momma and possibly one of the Tetras too. Good thing I have a large tank...but I may never get to buy another fish...no room.

Just beware when 'they' tell you to raise the temps on your tank a few degrees....it seems to bring out the mating instincts in my fish.

As does massive water changes at times.

I was told that even moving around the water-scape/caves/plants can put blue rams in the mood or maybe I misread what I was being told, it disturbs their territories (thanks Coler).

disturbs territories...but hey if that's the equivalent of rammy barry white good on them...lets get it on...lol

Well since nobody's said it yet, congratulations on being a Grandparent. :)

Thanks to all.

Just needed to 'vent' a little I guess.
Grandma....nope - just doesn't feel quite right :)

The fry seem to be doing well in 90 F. and a tank chock full of plants. I put in smal flake food broken up as small as I could.

I guess I am now running and Ich experiment. Which works better - medication or just plan heat.

Surprisingly the plants are surviving. I may be able to salvage quite a bit. I guess I am going to need them to provide 'hidey holes' for the fry.

A new adventure everyday.
