I have a 55 gallon cichlid tank and was wondering if anyone had a good, hardy, colorful, midlevel schooling fish that could survive under cichlid conditions. There will be mainly african cichlids from lake malawi in it. Give me an email at ztmorrow@comcast.net.

he says african, so not many would survive the high pH.

There are many fish that can be acclimated to a high pH. Ours is 9.0 out of the tap and I've kept schooling fish like danios, serpae tetras, and scissortail rasboras without problem.

So the question goes back to what species of malawians? The serpaes were the hardiest of those I mentioned as far as mixing with agressive fish, but with most lake malawi cichlids I don't know if it'd work.

A school of decent size clown loaches might survive in that tank, but most dithers are going to be chum pretty quickly if you have agressive Africans..
