White growths in tank

I have some faux purple coral as a decoration in my tank, and in the last week it has developed white patches growing on the tips. Is this coralline algae growing like it is on my LR? If so, why isn't it a different color? I thought white meant it was dead.

Usually and white growth is a fungus growing on something dead. Perhaps it is fungus growing on a leftover food particle or a small dead organism?
