He's been in the tank for over 2 weeks but I have only just managed to get a photo of my yellow watchman goby! As soon as he went in he dissapeared in the rockwork and I have only managed to catch glimpses of him now and then but the last couple of days he has been coming right out at feeding time. Isn't he great?!!

It's a screwcumber! I used it in my tropical tank - they are for holding down veg, ( I used it for courgette), but I use it to hold down sea veggies! lol!

The watchman looks "Awsome"...i love these dudes...they are so full of character..a great joy to watch....Are you getting a pistol shrimp to get a sybiotic relationship going? they are one the best working pairs you can have in the aquarium...

I'd love to get pistol shrimp but both my lfs rarely have them in - will have to nag them more! lol
Perhaps I should go for photo of the month!

Hi there

Great picture and the goby looks lovely, don't see many of them.. in fact don't think I 've seen one in our LFS...

Do you have a full tank shot?

Nice goby indeed! Will you be getting him a shrimp to pair up with?

Just a word of caution... If the screwcumber is metal (I don't know if it is, but it appears that it might be from the photo), I wouldn't recommend using it in your reef tank. Certain metals that are used in fw accessories are ok for fw tanks, but shouldn't be used in a sw tank. The water chemistry is very different in sw and any amount of metal entering the water can cause problems down the road with corals and invertebrates. For example, lead plant weights are ok for fw, but you wouldn't want to use them in a sw tank to hold corals down. In the same respect, some of the aluminum based phosphate reducing media are great for fw, but if the individual granules grind together and break down in a sw tank, the aluminum that's now in the water column of the tank has been shown to some degree to have negative effects on corals. All in all, if it is metal, I'd say better safe than sorry and remove it.

Ok, so I did a quick search to see for myself... The screwcumber is made of "very high quality Marine grade Stainless steel"... The risks might be low because of this, but I don't see it stated anywhere on their website that it's reef-safe. And, all the listings I saw for it describe it as being used in tropical tanks (fw). That could just mean it hasn't crossed over to the sw hobby all that much, but I'd still be skeptical about using it my reef tank.

My lfs has them in quite often - Northfleet's not that far into kent either, not sure how far into Essex you are!
Here is a full tank shot, I got a trio of blue green chromis yesterday and they seem to have settled in quite well. The second picture is of one of my turbo snails - do you think he needs a haircut?! lol! What is it and should I get it off?

Beautiful tank!
What is the yellow branching (coral?) on the left side bottom? And, does it require MH?

It's actually a fake anemone! Was gonna take it out cos I thought it looked a bit naff but the chromis love it - they hide in it and swim in and out of it a lot!
