I've had a 55 gallon tank for over 5 months, and now I encountered a new problem two days ago. I have 5 feeder fish in the aquarium, and I have no idea what the specific breed is. They're shaped kind of like a danio from a side profile, but from the front they're more round, and they're golden colored. The other day I noticed two fish swimming vertically near the tube that sucks water up into the filter (it's about an inch in diameter), and thought the way that they were swimming looked kind of like the way trout do when they spawn. So then I notice maybe 2 dozen balls on the tube, which I assumed were eggs. Today I noticed that in each egg, there are two little black dots, which I assume are where they eyes are developing. I doubt that many people who have been in the hobby for a long time would get excited about feeder fish breeding, but I'm wondering what to do now. Like I said, the eggs are attached to the tube that runs to the filter, so I'm wondering if I should remove it and place it in another part of the aquarium, because I'm thinking that if/when the fish hatch, they'll just be pushed down by the current and sucked back up into the filter or just eaten. So should I buy one of those breeder screen things and put the tube in there, or just move it to another part of the tank, or just leave it where it is? Or should I do something else?
