Female Convict added to tank hmmm.

Hi all, yesterday i added a female Convict to my 125g tank, Everything was fine for around two hours then i noticed that the female convict around 2 1/2 inches was hiding under some driftwood with my male convict around 5 inches doing his best to reach her. Try as he might there is no way he can reach under the driftwood

. I'm just wondering is he just trying to get to know her better or rip her to shreds?

Probably a combination of both. As long as she has a place to hide out from him, all should be well. In a few days, you'll probably see them making faces at each other and flaring their gills with the possibility of even locked jaws. Don't worry. They are pretty tough.

Hope they dont lip lock, The male will get most of the females head in his mouth.

it sounds like a bit of both to me also. his first reaction was to probably chase her out of his territory, but then he realized "hey, shes a female."

with convicts, the female recognizes if the male is strong enough for her by liplocking with him...
