Oscars

You can feed it several times a day as long as you are feeding it sparingly, not attempting to overfeed. Frequent water changes will be required to ensure clean water. Expect faster growth rate in this situation.:)

That's what I am trying to figure out. what is over feeding 3 crickets a day 3 worms a day or 6 or 8 a day. I think he will eat everything I put in the tank I was just wondering what is to much.

Oscars are gluttons. They will eat until they can't move. They don't have to eat every day either. Feed him enough to be able to tell that he has eaten, but not enough to where his belly is bulging. He should still remain active after you feed him and looking for more.

When I had an oscar in my 55 I would feed him every 2/3 days. I mostly fed him New Life Spectrum and Hikari pellets, I would mix in crickets, worms and when he got to about 8'' I started giving him tree frogs and small lizards. The pellets should be the staple because its more nutricious and the live food should be more of a treat.

There's really no need to feed pellet food if you have a ready supply of live food. Live food is more far more beneficial nutritionally than any pellet food to a carnivore like oscars. Just be sure to provide a variety like you are doing with the crickets, worms, etc.

A hundred feeder goldfish would equal about a small handfull of quality pellet food as far as nutrition! A lot of live food is not that nutritious. On another note Oscars are not carnivores they are omnivores and need plant matter in their diet not just live meaty food. Not sure where you got Oscars were carnivores!

I would agree with DeRo he is 100% correct live food is more like potato chips.

Funny, that's why mealworms contain 15 of the 16 elements of flesh. I AGREE a diet of goldfish is NOT healthy, but that's not what he's feeding them. Earthworms, crickets, mealworms are far from being "potato chips." But everyone has the right to their own opinion. I wish I still had pics of my old breeding group of synspilum to show you. They were enormous and super active and primarily ate mealworms, crickets, earthworms, and shrimp, along with some veggies.
