Snail Breeding, Nature wins?

So I was cleaning the coarse filter I have over the end of my skimmer to stop fish and such from getting sucked in, and I noticed these really hard white things bound in the meshing. I tore a small piece off and pulled out the items. They are tiny little snail shells. They had the opening and everything, I was unable to see any snails, but I am sure they were new shells. A week and a half ago, my 2 big astrea snails sat and spewed white stuff into the tank for about an hour, and I turned off the flow to let them mix. Really neat. I freed a couple from the meshing, and hope they thrive. The other ones were to tightly bound. I may go buy a new cover tomorrow and cut the other one up.

Last night, I had a peak an hour or so after lights out and sure enough little tiny snails climbing all over the glass. Very cool to see life start fresh in a tank.

See, everytime I see that my ramshorns have bred, I tend to curse instead of be amazed and happy. :P

My two turbo snails made lil babies in my tank, and both passed away shortly afterwards... is that normal? my red legged hermit has since took one of the shell's and i was wondering if maybe he killed the snail for the shell, and devoloped a taste for snails? or what happened? any clues?

do they reproduce offten bcuz im gonna raise and breed snails to feed to my puffs

austin if you want easy snails to breed do regular fw snails. i know they wont live in your brackish tank but they breed like mad. i had a few hundred in my 55 gallon. my GSP loved them

i dont keep a brackish tank. i keep mine freshwater. what would you consider a good sized snail for a dwarf puff? oh and what is a GSP

Isn't that a violet dragon goby in the avatar? I thought those needed brackish water.

nope they can live in any type of water as long as theyre transitioned over. i researched them for quite a while

If your wondering what kind of snail to feed your dp, most people feed them pond snails. I've heard you can get them from petsmart(just ask for some) and then you can start breeding. I went to www.dwarfpuffers.com (http://www.dwarfpuffers.com) for info...
