Hi everyone... My 72 gal tank is 6 week old now and I have inhabit( clown, blue tang, goby and singapore angel)..

my water per:

amm- 0
nit - 0
nitrate -20ppm
sg 1.025
temp 81
ph-8.4

I do have a few mushroom, zoos and a frogspawn..

now my question is since I introduce the angel into my tank 3 days ago.. my nitrate has steadily move up from 10ppm to 20 ppm last night..
I am afraid it may start causing problem.. what is a suitable nitraie level?
are there any filter I can buy to lower the nitrate? I will be doing water change 5 gal everyone 3 days right now.. please advise

Fish are more tollerant to nitrate than what inverts/corals are...fish can survive happily in a tank that has 40ppm nitrate..not saying its the best enviroment, but they can live it..you do ideally need to get the nitrate back down to below 10ppm in my opinion...

It could be that the bacteria cannot handle the extra bioload of the newly introduced fish...I would stick to the water change route rather than adding things to the system..

Do you have a refugium? Having one of these is a great way to helping you do reduce your nitrates along with water changes. Get your Nitrates as low as possible. Keeping it at 0 would be the best environment for your corals, your fish too. But if you don't have nitrates at zero, it still doesn't mean you can't have a healthy tank, but as long as they aren't going through the roof.

thank you both for the response.. now this may sound silly, but what is a danger nitrate level for fish only tank?

well, fish have found to be able to live happily in nitrates up to 40 ppm...However, that does not make it right...For fish only, 10 - 20 is acceptable. Even though it has been tested and well documented, to me, 40ppm upwards is dangerous....

Anything greater then 40 is kinda unsafe. It will start to stress your fish out, which will lower their immune system.
