The current Mafia game will end within the week. I figured I'd give people some time to check it out and see if they want to play.

WTH is the Mafia game?

Imagine playing live action clue... with no cards, or really clues for that matter. One town (the players), some evil mafia scum (some other players(no offense to those who are mafia)) and... occasionally, a good guy (detective, doctor, that sort of thing). Now... go figure out who the mafia are and lynch them...

That's pretty much it. It sort of addicting in a fun way... kinda like poker without the money.

What is the role of the Detective? What do they do? Are they told each night the status of one person a night? I am guessing they can't tell the towns people what they know or that they are the Detective without being killed the next night by the mafia. So what is the point of the Detective?

The detective can determine the role of one player each night. What he does with that information is up to him. He can subtly try to influence the town. If he finds a couple of mafia, then he can reveal himself and hope for the best. I've even seen a game where one of the mafia 'revealed' himself as the detective. Had the town going for quite a while.



What will the Doctor do?


Each night, the doctor will give me a name and if that player is the mafia's target, then the doctor will protect the player from the mafia hit. Sometime's the detective can convince the doctor to cover him for a while. Sometimes, the mafia can convince the doctor to cover them too.

Neither the doctor nor the detective will know who anyone else is. The mafia will only know who the other mafia are.



Also, I think anyone that talks about PM's or plays outside of the rules should be lynched on the spot.

That's not a terrible plan at all. Of course, in the last game, that would have decimated the town... much like a ebola outbreak. But know that everyone is more familiar with the game and mechanics, then I think that is an acceptable rule.
