Hum, I have been reading up that the min. size tank for a dwarf lion is a 20 gal., at least that is what the books are telling me. Also, I am saving up to set up my 125 so a sm. snowflake should be fine for a few months right? So you don't think I should even bother with the back filter? Also, would a dwarf lion be stressed or harmed with a larger lion in the furture? (125). Now I have also been reading up on clown triggers. Would a full grown one thrive or even surive in a 125?
(This is actualy a reply to my earlier post)

You don't want a trigger mixed in with a lion and an eel - it will kill both. Dwarf lions and eels can be iffy mixes as well. Usually it works out ok, but I lost a 3" D. zebra to a snowflake moray that was only 2' long...managed to swallow the lion spines and all.

If you REALLY wanted a Trigger with that mix I would look into the Niger or any of the Xanthichtys Triggers. Some of those are the Blue Throat, Crosshatch, Sargassum, among a few others but the most common (and cheapest) is the Blue Throat. These guys have upturned mouths so can't bite at the gravel or other fish as well as say a Clown, Queen, or Huma. In my 209 I have a 3ft Zebra Moray and 2ft Snowflake with most of my triggers but the eels stay concealed in the live rock all day, and come out at night which works well cause that is when the Trigs go to bed. BTW, I don't think an adult Volitan and an adult Dwarf would work. The Volitan would eat the Dwarf. Remember an adult Volitan will look like a basketball swimming in your tank! Hope this helps.

Are there any fish that would go with a clown trigger in a 125?
What about an Indian Ocean Sailfin Tang?

I'm sure those big fins would be irresistable targets to a clown. They are one of the more aggressive triggers remember. I've always heard that clowns should be kept alone, especially since the tank is a bit on the small side for something as large and active as a clown, but I'll let the trigger addict comment on anything that may work:)

You're right Vodoo. You CAN keep a Clown with other fish but watch them EXTREMELY closely. Also have another tank on hand (empty) that you can move him to if the going gets tough. I have my Clown with a Queen among other triggers, wrasses, etc. I watch all for at least 1 hour a day and watch the dominance level. A tang would be one of the better fish to keep with a Clown because a trigger is generally too lazy to chase them. Another good tankmate is a Lg Harlequin Tusk. Those things are nasty. Hope this helps and good luck with whatever you decide to do.
