Hi, I am planning on building my own sump for a 125 I am working on. My question is about the grade of Acrylic/Plexi I need to use.

The sump will be 36" L x 16" H x 15" W ( Water level won't be higher than about 12" in any compartment) so I plan on using 1/4" and bracing the top.

Can I use regular extruded (Plexiglas MC) or do I REALLY need to use the more expensive cell cast Plexiglas G?

The only info I have found regarding the grade of acyrlic to use has been in reference to building the actual tank ...

I would use cell cast. It isn't worth the chance of your sump bursting to save a few bux.

I wouldnt risk it with extruded, unless you use 3/8". 1/4" with cell cast will be perfectly fine

Plexi Glass will yellow over time. I would go for Acrylic instead. If it really matters to you.

PlexiGlas *is* acrylic. PlexiGlas is simply a brand name of acrylic.
The yellowing of acrylic is no more and hasn't been for several yrs. The mfrs removed changed the formulation several yrs ago so that acrylic will not yellow, well not for a looong time.
As for the original question, you *can* use extruded if you wish, just not recommended. The same reasoning for using cell cast for display tanks applies to sumps as well, perhaps moreso as folks tend to underbuild sumps so they get stressed even more at times.
