I went shopping today and brought home a coral banded shrimp. I drip acclimated for about an hour as soon as i got the shrimp home and then emptyed the bucket back into the tank. (I think next time i will skip the emptying into the tank part) Within 30 seconds to a minute i noticed the shrimp was acting strangely ( unbalnced, listless) I hermit crab grabbed ahold of a leg and took one off. I picked the shrimp up in the net and he/she is now safely in the net but still very listless and unbalenced. I got him home about 10pm, drip acclimated for an hour and for the last two hours he has been hanging on in the net but not getting any better. Any quick fixs or solutions to help him or her? The little guy is not doing well and I'm afraid will die if something is not done, hoping there is someone up late with ideas. Thanks so much
oh, CBS is in a 29 GAL with live rock,a cleanup crew, and a Royal Gramma. THe tank is not very old and just finished cycling. All of the perameters are in line and if the Nitrate is a little bit high how would one lower this ( I do not believe this is the case, i just really dont know if thats possible. Thanks again

would be best if you could post your water results for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH...this will gve us a little bit more indication of how the tank is..
Am glad to see that you will not be adding LFS or anothers persons tank water to you tank again...The reason we dont do this is because you just dont know what you are going to be introducing...

Am 0-.25, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 5 PH 8.2 Salinity 1.022 He's still hanging on, i can see things near his mouth moving, but hes not moving much beyond that. No Instant cures just to get him going? Thanks

Is a water change advised? or just more stress?

personally, i would not....i would monitor it, and ensure it gets some food, with garlic if you have it, via target feeding, to ensure it can build up some strength

II drip acclimated for about an hour as soon as i got the shrimp home and then emptyed the bucket back into the tank.
I was under the impression that shrimp are very sensitive to water changes. An hour seems on the short end of acclimation. I've read 2-3 hours driptime is better timeframe for a water chemistry change on them. I'd guess its that, but I could be wrong.
I hope he comes around!! :)

such a shame, sorry to hear it....The only things prolly to change next time is to acclimate for about 2 hours...
Hope this does not disuade you from having another...what was it like at the shop where you brought it from?

Just before i went to bed he wasstill going and i Even got up and he was still just barely going, nothing i could do but i was hoping he was getting acclimated very slowly...very slowly. Anyway i woke up and he was gone. THanks so much for all the help, i tried to feed with some garlic but he was beyond eating. It is frusterating, but no it will not dissude me from trying it again and acclimating for 2-3 hours. Has anyone else had this problem? Oh the the LFS was not so local, its a Petco. Always had great luck with them before and they have a fairly clean setup, well as clean as you can get having combined filtration. He had been there for a little less then a week. Thanks again for the help.
On Acclimation, do you drip acclimate then net to the tank?
As a side note if anyone is in the market for the most peaceful Coral Banded shrimp I've ever seen let me know. You dont even have to feed and no acclimation is required.

Ah, bummer, sorry he didn't make it... but to answer your question
Yes. Drip acclimate and then net and put into tank. You don't want that water from the store going into your tank. It might be perfectly okay, but you have no idea what they are putting into their water at the store. Sometimes stores medicate with copper and other chemicals that you don't want in your tank. It's an unneccessary risk.
When you are drip acclimating.. do you dump half the water once it has doubled? That's what I do and it seems to work great. That way you are slowly converting the water chemistry over to your tankwater. Just wanted to make sure!

No, i just drip drip dripped and poured right on in. Bad idea i think, i will acclimate better next time. The wierd thing is i have a CBS in another tank and i just added a half a cup at a time for an hour and he is great, i thought i was improving on my last tactic. Thanks, I will try again a little better informed this time.

I'd wait till your ammonia is at 0 before adding anything else. Also your specific gravity is low... try to get it up to at least 1.024

Go to another place, buy another one. See if it does the same thing if it is fine, it is your dealers tanks.
