It took 4 days to fill and another 3 to clear up, but my old 85g is finally up and running. Thank you to all those that have given me advice over the past month or so.

Now I'm looking to prepare my Quarantine tank for when the cycle is over. I was thinking about starting with a small school (3-5) of blue-green chromis. Is it a good idea to start with a school or should I start with an individual fish? From what I understand from my readings, the initial cycling of the tank will yield bacteria able to only initially handle a small bioload.

Also, I was planning on using a spare 10g as a QT Tank. Would I be able to house the small school in this tank for that relatively short amount of time? While the fish are in QT, do I perform water changes as usual?

Thanks again!! Here is a picture of the 85g. Please feel free to criticize, constructive or not.:) I've never been good at aquascaping.:wall:

I think it looks great. Are you going to add more LR to what you already have? What fish are you adding to the tank?

I would make two "islands" with the amount of live rock you have there. Then they fish can swim inbetween the islands and feel like they are on a real reef. Plus you'll probably have less problems with aggression since there are two islands to spread the fighting over instead of one big one. I think it's more visually interesting for us humans and the fish probably like some cruising space for swimming. You'd have to pile some rocks up carefully though. :)

Just a suggestion. It's looking good though!

Thanks. The islands sounds like a good idea. I'll think about it.

I think that I will add more live rock eventually. For now I think I'm going to give my debit card a break before it melts.

As far as livestock goes, I was think of the school of blue green chromis to start, then maybe some bangaii cardinals (2-3), then maybe a fire fish, a flame angel at some point. I haven't thought much more about it. I'm taking it one species at a time.

looking really good mate, i liked having my reef setup with the two islands of rock....the fish really enjoyed the area between them, it was like a communial gathering point, really cool

Thanks!!

I'll look into getting more rock this weekend. I think I'll need some more in order to make any sort of island. I kinda want to keep the right side of the tank the way it is simply because there is a rock that has a cave naturally built in to it. You really can't tell from the picture.

What about the quarantine tank issues I mentioned? Any suggestions?:help:
