What kind of snail is this? Any help with naming it and a little info about them would be greatly appreciated.

that's called a "Pond Snail". It usually comes in on plants or sometimes in the water of fish received. The lay eggs in gel masses on the leaves of plants or the aquarium deco/glass. They are good scavengers IMO, but some folks tend to find them a nuisance. The reason is their ability to thrive if under the right conditions. The right conditions being mainly overfeeding.

Thank you for your help. I was told also that these are Japenese trapdoor snails. The first pic is of the Trapdoor's and the last is the pond's. So now I am totally confused.

the trapdoor snails are going to be quite a bit larger, and their shells sprial to the side.. pond snails shells spiral straight back.

also, pond snails shells vary greatly in color. They can be as dark as almost black to as light as white.

The trapdoor snails have an operculum- the "door" that they can close off their shell with. Pond snails don't have this.

Definetly a pond snail. Pond snails are awesome. It is unfortunate that they are so widely thought of as pests, they are extremely beneficial to an aquarium.

Ok, seems to be a debate on what this snail actually is. On another forum they say it is a Japenese Trapdoor, so...
I took some more pics yesterday of the snails , top ,underneath , and in the conatiner they are in, inside and out.
So is "Clyde" a pond or Japense snail?

Pond...The Japanese trapdoor spiral on the shell rests to the left or right, the pond goes straight along the length of its body.

Definitely Japa.....

I kid I kid. 100% sure its a pond snail Physa sp.

There are two types of common pond snails we usually see in out aquariums. One type has long antenna and the other has much shorter triangular shaped antenna.

Do you know this snail?

Nope, havent met him before, he looks like a nice guy, it'd be a pleasure to meet him.

Don't worry, I'm highly social and don't have any puffers or loaches.

Yep... definitely a pond snail...

I named my brigs snails Frodo(blue), Sam-Wise(purple-stripe), and Smeagol(jade) and my two red rams are Pippin and Merry. As for the Malaysioan trumpets, I named the big one Frenchie (for the'French Horn') and the little one Piccolo (a type of high-octave trumpet).
