250W Stealth Heater Enough for 75G?

I am looking at the 250 W Stealth heater for my new 75 G tank. I am concerned about inadequate or uneven heat but at the same time I dont want to pony up for twin 150's if I dont have to.

I have heard alot of good things about this heater and I know what the package says (along with the 3-5 w/g rule of thumb) but I am looking for some real world experience...

FYI - For water circulation, I will be running an Emperor 400 on one side and a HOT Magnum on the other. Temperature range would go up to 80 for the fish that I am thinking about stocking.

i would go with 2 250s myself.. but thats me and my overkill. :)

If you put it in the middle, you should be ok. You could put it by one of the filter's output, but you probably would end up with weird heating i.e. cooler on one end and the heater always on.

if you insulate your tank, than maybe. no harm in trying it first to see if it works. If it doesn't than buy a 150w. It's usually safer to go with two heaters any ways. Just in case if one fails you have the other to back you up. I've read too many threads of cooked fish when a heater temp controller locks up and doesn't shut off your heater properly. This problem wouldn't happen if you split the load.

I place my heater (AC70 300w) on one end and the thermometer on the other end.

For those with 2; if one gets stuck and over heats the tank; having two isn't going to save you. I figure if one quits working, its going to take quite a while for 75g to drop below adequate temp and I check it daily so I should catch it.

Thats what I use in 2 of my 75g tanks. I haven't had any problems or uneven fluctuations in temp...

I run a 250w Stealth heater on my 75 gallon. As long as the room temp dont drop below 64-65 degrees you wont have any problems with temp fluctuations.

If you print out the online price from www.petsmart.com and take it to the local store, you can get two heaters for the shelf price of one. If you're only going to use one heater, I would get a 300watt, but you would be better off with two 250's.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. DrsFosterSmith is having a sale on them so I might just go the double heater route for redundancy and to prevent cold spots.
