Should I go with an Aqua Clear or a Tetratec power filter? This is for a 30 gallon, what size should I get? Also, how does pricing on media compare? Please share with me any experiences or what you would recommend for me.

Thanks!
Andy

I have never tried the TetraTec either but I wholeheartedly recommend the AquaClear. It is a great filter, and it is extemely economical...it uses 6 watts of power (the mini, 150, 200, and 300), it is priced right, and comes with free media. I only use sponges, but they last a long long time since I merely rinse them out during water changes and reuse them over and over. I usually don't bother with the charcoal cartridge because I have planted tanks. However, I will keep them around in case I have to remove medication.

As for the size, that would depend on a couple of factors. A tank size of 30 gallons would probably do well with the AC 200 if it is moderately stocked. If you are going to get goldfish, or cichlids, or stock the tank very heavily, I would go with the AC 300. Even better would be two AC minis or 150s. I subscribe to the practise of redundancy in filtration. So if once filter were to break down, you'd still have the other as back up.

My ac 300 is almost a year old and i still have the same 2 sponges. Imo cant be beat. I also have a aqauatech 30-60 and the filters do wear out after multiple washes. Tim

ok i have a 29g basically the same as a 30g. I say Aqua clear all the way ! the only problem i have had with them is if the power goes out and comes back on they wont start back up again like my other filters do. Sometimes they overheat when that happens i let them cool down wash them out and restart them. :D for my 29g i have 1 aquaclear mini and 1 aquaclear 150 :D

That heating capsule seems like a gimmick to me, especially for that price. I don't have a Tetra-Tec, but I work at an LFS and talk to many people that do. They seem ok with it, but think that the flushing chamber is reaaaally loud and turn it off immediately. I've also heard of clogging problems. That being said, I own 6 AC's and I love them:D

Yea, go with an AC 300, you won't be disappointed at all.
