I overheard an interesting conversation and being the skeptic I am I thought i'd see if i could opinons on it. The guy was talking about his tank, and he mentioned said he had discus, angels and a severum in a community 180g. That sparked my intrest since that would be an awsome tank, but i had gotten the impression it probably wasn't a good idea. so, can discus and a severum coexist?

Also, I was doing a little rearranging on my tank, and my various ruffled, amazons and compact swords have pretty well entertwined root wise and i had a heck of a time uprooting any of them. is a severum really strong enough to pull up or destroy fully rooted massed swords like that?

Yes.

Sevs are plant eaters and will try all means to uproot the plants and eventually turning them into salad.

well they can co exist. Discus require a higher temp than Serevums usually thrive in. That would worry me a little.

I suppose it really depends on the individual fish, but I would never trust my severum to live with my discus. Discus do much better IMO when they are the largest, most aggressive fish in the tank, so it's a much better idea to keep them in a peaceful community. They are easily stressed.

As far as severums eating plants, they don't just dig them up, they dig them up and then tear them to shreds. I can't even keep anubias or java fern (the toughest plants I can think of) with my severum- I've tried several times. In fact, sometimes I throw plant clippings from my discus tank into the severum's tank just to give him a little snack!:)
