hi,
I have noticed that a few of my fish are swimming at times rather jerky. They swim normally then all of a sudden they dart about, but in sort of odd way.I do have lots of tiny bubbles floating about in tank, caused by filter,so i was wondering if the bubbles, where annoying them & they were avoiding them. The odd fish does flick on decor at times.
My water test results were all good, and i cant see anything wrong with the fish.

Sounds like parasites, most likely ich. What's the current temperature in your tank and what kind of fish do you have?
Please give us a little bit of information.
How long has the tank been set up? What are your water parameters? What kind of fish are acting strangely? What is the volume of your tank? How many fish are in it? What change happened, if any, before the strange behavior? What temperature is the water?
Anything else you can think of may help.
Thanks Tracy

As usual, water parameters are "all good" results in us asking what they are specifically. Some people think that 0.25 Nitrites and up are okay. Make sure that your Ammo and Nitrites are at 0, Nitrates <40 (preferebly <20).
Is your pH level acceptable for the fish that you are housing?
By jerkiness, do you mean that they are spasming? Or maybe just flicking their tails?

I have a juwel vision 180,the fish have been in tank for a week.
2 danios 2 platies 3 cherry barbs
water results were Ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 10 ph 7.6 temp 77
Tank was cycled using my brothers filter & bits decor etc.No particular sort of fish doin it,seems to be 1 of each kind.
Think it might be some sort of spasm, but only every so often.

could be a parasite..ich can manifest in the gills before dropping off and multiplying to the parasite we usually see.
also don't rule out flukes(gill).
however, generally these may cause rapid breathing as they tend to interfere with gill function.
are there any irritants that can enter the tank? sprays, cleaners etc?
what method are you using for water conditioning?

Maybe you need to add a few more fish, the fish chosen are all schooling and I thought that you needed 5 per type to make them feel safe. In the wild such small numbers means they are in danger and they could be feeling threatened and jumpy.

There is nothing at all, outside tank.no sprays, etc.I am new to fishkeeping & was told at my lfs that it would be fine to have just the few.I had read different but was talked into getting them. They dont seem nervy at all,no fish hiding, all eating well & no bullying.
just annoyed that only had a week & already i am stressed out.Definatly something wrong, with flicking & spasms. So will get something tomorrow,to treat.Any ideas as what to get ?

Well, Maracyn by Mardel could be a good start. it's a general medication for lots of illnesses. Since you're not sure what could be the illness i think this might be the best bet. Good luck.

You are using a water conditioner..?
What kind of test kit...liquid...dip strips...?
Barbs and danios are darters IME.
Whenever in doubt, do a water change, it can't hurt, until you identify the real issue.

sounds like an accurate description of my cherry barbs. they float a bit and then speed off and then stop and then speed off... often 4 or 5 males will chase the female endlessly, but very darting, switchback type movements. they might just be happy.
