hi,
As i my previous post, somethin wrong with fish. Now one of my cherry barbs is upside down.He has no control at all.I hve him in a hospital tank, but i know he is dying.I am very upset at seeing him like it,is awful.but i am very mere hearted and just cannot bring myself to put him out of his misery.
As i said last night fish flicking on things,& occasional spasmin. Then this one started having balance problems, and now he is upside down.
Does anyone have anymore of an idea, now this happened. What do i need to get ?
Am panicing now,as dont want to loose them all.

Anyway, to what matters, it sounds like he either:

1) Has internal parasites

2) Has swim bladder problems which all of the sudden popped up.

I would think it would be parasites, and your other fish sound like they have some kind of parasite aswell.

Any1 know how to treat for these? I cant remember off the top of my head, but I might have read it somewhere a while back...

P.S: I whichever problem your cherry has, hes slowly and painfully dieing, and if you can bring yourself to do it, either Clove Oil & Water (puts him to sleep and kills him) or, the more grizzly task, cutting off his head, severing his spine, or severing his neck (I can handle clove oil, but NEVER, never those...)

I typed it very quickly in a panic ! Didn,t expect to be made fun of though.

But thanks for your help, will get some treatment & clove oil asap.

Hi Tracy.

I don't know if the fish is dieing, but swim bladder disorder is pretty serious, it seems especially in a small fish. It is likely caused either by a physical injury or a bacterial infection. Now, seeing as how you have had two go down I am going to say it is more likely to be bacterial in your case.

Basically, you keep the water as clean as possible, and hope. As a last resort you could treat with Maracyn 2 which is a broad spectrum ant-bacterial medecine.

btw, sometimes constipation causes similar problems, in which case some mushed up peas or epsom salt may clear the blockage.

Will try the Maracyn 2,will go and get now. Also would tinned pea,s be ok,or do i need fresh ?

Thanks for advice

Tinned is okay. How is your normal tank cleaning and water change routine?

Just thought though, the sick fish is not eating. So the peas would be no good, but i will give it a try.
This is my first lot of fish, they have only been in a week.I have only changed a small amount of water,as test reults where fine. ammonia 0 nitrite 0 and nitrate 10. I am testing water daily.

Test results look ok. What kit are you using ? Should be a good liquid test kit, API make a great one.

Sorry you're having difficulty with your first lot of fish. Stick with it.

i am using api master test kit.Its very annoying when its not obvious, whats wrong though.Have checked fish over & over, nothing on them at all.
Have just put some mushed pea in hospital tank, but fish refusing it.Its now time for me to stop his suffering.Dreading it !
Put a small amount of pea in main tank, and my did fish love it.just incase it is constipation.

Sounds like you're doing all you can - keep it up :)

I hope the rest of them don't go down. I would be talking to the LFS though; you've only had them a week, and it doesn't look like anything you have done or not done has caused this.

I noticed you cycled with your brothers filter - I take it he has not had any disease in his tank recently and is not having the same problems as you are ?
