I have a DD Black Angel that has white spots above his one eye (see attached pic's). This started appearing about a week ago and looks to be getting worse. He still eats regularly and is active, no other signs of sickness. Can anyone idea what is wrong with him and what I should use to treat the tank.

He is housed in a 29 gallon planted tank with 2 smaller angels (one he is paired up with and they have laid eggs), 4 panda cory's and 2 synodontis petrecola. None of the other fish seem to have this problem, all are healthy. No other fish or plants have been introducted to this tank in over 8 months.

My water parameters are as follows.

Temp: 80 degrees
ph: 6.8
Ammonia: 0 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: 40 ppm (seems high to me)

I do weekly water changes of 50% and treat with Prime.

Any help is much appreciated. I would not want to loose him as he is paired up with a silver angel.

could be a result of the spawning..it take a bit out of them to do this. it does appear to be stress related.

how old is this angel..?

you may want to up the water changes to twice a week..the nitrates may seem high..Is this a planted tank?

Thanks for the reply, I sure hope it is stress related and not a disease. Yes this is a planted tank, do you think that might be why the nitrates are high. I will take your advise and try 50% water changes twice a week instead of once a week and see how things go. Thanks again.
 
How big are your angels (that's a nice looking one BTW)? How much are you feeding?

Your stocking if all are full sized is pretty high. As star_rider suggested, an extra water change per week until the nitrate gets lower could only be a good thing. Maybe try feeding a bit less, too.

As for your plants, they should help decrease your nitrate level...unless you're fertilizing/dosing something with nitrate in it. If something you're using states it increases nitrates, I'd simply stop using it - your plants have plenty right now.

Thanks for the reply. Yes he is one of my best looking angels. He is only about 1 year in age. I only feed my fish once a day, except my fry. I only feed enough so all the food is eaten in about 2 to 3 minutes. He is the biggest angel in the 29 gallon tank the other 2 are about half is size. I do use a liquid fertizler on my plants maybe once a month, I could try cutting that down also as my plants are nice and green. Again I will try the 50% water changes twice a week. Thanks.
 
even if you add ferts..the plants should consume the nitrates.
is this a heavily planted tank? what lighting?

if you have a heavily planted tank and you dose ferts you should do at least 1 50% wc per week..you need to get the tds down.

looks like a light bacterial infection..pimafix/melafix may help with this as well as water changes.

keep an eye on them tho..if they form ***** postules...you will want to look at HITH,LLE
tho it doesn't look like it.

what is the diet like?

I feed brine shrimp and blood worms as well as flake to my spawning angels.

they need lots of protien when they spawn.
 
Thanks for the reply star_rider. I will cut down on the fert's and I do 50% water changes once a week but will up this to twice a week.

All my angels are fed a wide variety for their diet. Various flake foods, granuales, pellets, frozen brine and blood worms. They also get an occasional feeding of live brine and black worms. My pair have spawned about 5 times, maybe every 1 1/2 weeks.

I hate to use med's if I don't have to, but I do have both melafix and pimafix.

Could you clarify this statement, not sure what you mean --
