Hey guys
I am trying to finish the stocking for my 38 gallon, and was just wondering how big apistos max out at, and also how much bioload they exert on the tank.
I've done my fair share of research and from what i've got, they max out at abotu 3-4" and they are a bit more "messy" than the average fish. Please let me know if im completely wrong or if i am in the right direction.

3-4 inch is about right. they can be kept in a 10 gal. i dont think they are too messy i could be wrong.

I don't consider them a messy fish or a high bio laod.

A trio of apistos would do well in a ten gallon tank. I would not add much else, may a few dithers to keep them comfortable. I would think 3 would work well in your tank. 2 ladies and a male.

well, mostly.
8 Rummynoses
2 (Pair) GBRs
2 (Pair) Killies
4 Panda Corys
1 Hillstream Loach
1 RTS(This is why i say mostly) But he is fine with all the others.

well its a 38 gallon, and tankmates are listed above now.
but the problem is my LFS only sells apistos in pairs.

there is 20+ types of apistos. there are some that can get 4-5" but many get only about 2-3" As long as you give each pair a cave they should be fine.

prob breed more usccessfully in a tank of their own, in any case you need another tank for the fry about a week after hatching when mummy is not so parental
i have a pair in my community tank. good community fish, have had the odd nip at guppy and plec when got too near eggs
the plec has always ate the eggs at night though

I would lose the RTS. Sooner or later.....
I'd go with one pair. See what type they turn out to be.
