Alright folks. I'm tired of arguing about this, and every website has a different answer. Are they bred this way or is it natural? Wetman, you must know, you know all of the urban myths of aquaria.

They are natural. As a matter of fact, their conspecifics are the Mexican Tetra (Astyanax fasciatus or A. mexicanus depending on whom you believe).

I found this link...it talks about the blindness of that naturally-occuring race/subspecies (depends on whom you believe again) and how scientists "easily" restored sight to them. Fascinating reading, really: http://abcnews.go.com/sections/science/DailyNews/cavefish_000728.html.
