The lfs has a pretty large group of the tiniest botia... they are all about 1.25" tops, and he said they had had them for at least 3 months, with no big growth... they were solid sliver with a black stripe, stayed tight in a group on the bottom of the empty tank... and were absolutley awesome... 11.99 each though! ouch... I'd want at least 10.

unfortunately he said they'd eat my amanos.

what exactly were they? the grease pencil was smeared on the display.

I think you were looking at the Sidthimunki Botia. They look sort of like Otos and grow to a max size of 2". You can see a pic here: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=1587
where they are selling for $20 plus shipping.

Lupin--you can keep some invertebrates with some loaches. They just have to be too big for the loach in question to eat. My Burmese don't even bother my mystery snails.

I don't think that was it either. these were very silver, with just a single stripe.

I'd mostly be worried about amano shrimp, as I really want to have them in the tank I am planning.

they might have been these, Yasuhikotakia nigrolineata http://www.loaches.com/species-index/photos/y/yasuhikotakia_nigrolineata_06.jpg/view http://www.loaches.com/species-index/photos/y/yasuhikotakia_nigrolineata_12.jpg/view but the noses loooked more like the chain loach, more compact, not as long... I'll have to take pics next time I am there, none of the photos I've found online look right.

Are you sure they werent skunk loaches? Not silver exactly but white, with a black stripe down there back. They are usually pretty small at the lfs thats why I thought of them, but they are also usually cheaper than that. Anyway:
