I currently set up a 30 bow Gallon tank. I want to have in it a pair of Five-Bar Cichlid (Neolamprologus tretocephalus). Is it possible?
Don't take my word as gospel, but that is risky at best in my opinion. They are usually fine as juveniles (I have one in my tank and he's as mellow as they come and is a beautiful fish) but seriously aggressive with their own kind and similar looking fish when they mature (so I will be keeping a careful eye on him).
The males are also very aggressive when breeding so you need lots of room to give the females (and everything else in the tank) space to avoid them, and you want a few females in there. I don't think there's sufficient space in a 30 gallon.
In summary I think you could have a male/male or female/female pair in there as juveniles but its asking for trouble as the fish mature, especially with the male/male pair...you wouldn't generally keep two males in a community tank in a 55 gallon tank as adults let alone a smaller tank.
