do stems grow?

I started a planted tank but i dont have any plants. I found plant stems for a killer deal but I have no idea what i would do with them. would i just plant them in the substrate and watch em grow? Would I have to root them some how? I want to get my planted tank started so if anyone could let me know..... thanks

what is the sound of one hand clapping?

yes, most do grow. trim the bottom few leaves and stick it in the substrate. use weights if they float... then wait!

they will keep growing and growing you hope. chop the bottoms off and replant the tops. if you want to keep the bottoms you can keep them also.

The roots will form on their own if you plant them into substrate.

After a while, you might get some side shootings/stems, you can cut these off and plant them back into the substrate.

Adaquate light and CO2 supply will also help boost plant growth.
