I just ordered a 30 gal from a local ps and it will be here tomorrow i currently have 2 Australian Rainbows and 3 free swimming fry (1 with adults and 2 smaller in breeder net) in a 1 yr and a half old est 10 gallon and i was planning on doing a decor matching that of its natural enviroment but i have no clue on what plants (live or realistic fake i havent decided yet....what do you think?)

i also have a large algae infestation if i choose to cycle this new tank with the decor or filter cartridge i have in the already established 10 gallon will it infest my new tank?

and what would make good tank mates seeing as these Rainbows are full size? i rlly like schooling fish or Gouramis if it is possible and some kind of bottom feeder seeing as algae is a big prob?

:help:

Congrats on the new tank!

I'd get a few Otocinclus cats (Otos) to handle your algae problem.

A week with the light off and some dark paper on all sides to keep the light out should cure your algae problem. Depending on the light in the 30, the algae problem may follow, but it's really not that big a deal to clear up.

I would use the stuff from the 10 to get the 30 going quick.

Once the fry catch up to the adults, you'll have a nice school of rainbows. Other than the Otos for cleaning, you could put a few yo-yo loaches for soemthing else on the bottom. Rummynoses seems to be fairly popular and look cool for a schooling fish. I'd go with a pair of pearl or dwarf gouramis; i have both.
