Do we have any hip-hop/rap fans?

I love this genre of music but mainly the old stuff such as LL Cool J, Slick Rick, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, etc.

I personally think rap is taking a turn for the worst with the unlyrical artists of today and just screaming stuff like "I walk it out!" 300 times in a row.

hmmm...

the closest I;d have to say I enjoy to anything that's remotely close to rap/hiphop would have to be the Beastie Boys.

Or some old school NWA!!!:headbang2:

;)

The Beastie Boys are hip-hop, and a very talented group at that. They probably are one of the best party rap groups ever.

NWA is one of my favorite clans. I don't really know how you can beat Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, MC Ren, EAzy-E, and DJ Yella.

Okay so currently I'm really big in A Tribe Called Quest.

If any of you haven't heard of them check it out. IT is a group that consists of Rappers Q-Tip and PHife Dawg, and DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammed.

Anyways, their rhymes are crazy good and Phife Dawgs flow is absolutely amazing.

Some songs I recommend-
Award Tour
Electric Relaxation
Can I kick it?

Q-Tip has a couple of good solo songs out too. You should check him out.

My favorites are:

A Tribe Called Quest
Schooly D
MF Doom
Atmosphere
Slick Rick
Wu- Tang Clan
Artifacts
Immortal Technique
Big L
Easy E ( NWA in general )
Scarface
ODB
old Snoop Dogg
Tupac

and theres alot more...

You and I are going to get along great! :)

Every one of the artists you listed are great, though I've never cared much for Snoop, his old stuff is way better than his new.

The only new (good) rappers that are good that I can think of are
Talib Kweli-He has a crazy flow and is very underrated because he doesn't talk about rims and money
Immortal Technique
Common
and a few other underground artists.

There are also some ol skool artists that are trying to bring good hip hop back, (Nas, Wu-Tang)

First off, Rap and Hip Hop are completely to different things... oohhh boy you had to get me started hahaa, i didnt even want to open this thread but i did.

Hip hop is my life, my culture, everything i do.

F*** rap, and everything you here on the radio and tv (unless you actually got a real Hip Hop show where you live :) )

that is not Hip Hop there just raping a culture taking what they dont and never will understand.

Hip Hop is not dead, its just underground not like back in the good ol days, but it should have never became big, cuz then big corps want to make money, and then people sell out on there culture for a quick buck and **** it all up.
Hip Hop is alive more then ever if you know where to look.

i could go on forever so if you have any questions shoot them and ill answer them, as i am a true HipHoppa and will be able to asnwer it right.

and check out these things to educate you on Hip Hop

Intro:
Know what I'm sayin'…In 1979...
I was a 2 year old kid from Adelaide...
I wasn't a performer...
It seems to me that in 1999 Hip Hop's a business...
In 1979 it was a culture... And I miss it…

Verse 1:
Suffa:
You're so fake its plain to see who you truly are,
looking less like a b-boy, more like a movie star,
forget the funk and go hook up those disco breaks,
sit down punk and take a look at what you make,
it's not hip-hop, it's something more sad, sick and seedy,
what's Popping that Coochie got to do with graffiti?
And your R & B dance-steps what about finger-popping?
b-boy electric shocking, windmills, body rocking,
so body-body rock, body-body rock, I'll take ya back,
break your back, realize b-boys aren't faking that
funk that you've forgotten hoe,
how could you have gotten so
far gone, that you could never stop and go,
back to the roots, nineteen seventy nine,
birthplace of the scratch, birthplace of the rhyme,
you'll feel it in your spine like your first taste of wine,
we'll make it back; it'll just take some time

Chorus:
Suffa:
Remember Kangol hats, fat laces and lino mats,
kids spinning on their backs to the sugar hill wax,
now the sugar hills collapsed and the sweets turned sour,
moneys walking my culture through its darkest hour,
now I wanna take you back, walk on through time,
I was two years old in nineteen seventy nine,
but it's a time that I miss; you ask what's the difference,
Hip-hop was then a culture, now hip-hop's a business

Verse 2:
Suffa:
You started b-boying as a form of expression,
to channel youths stress and their aggression,
now through the suggestion of record companies
MC's are pumping these,
problems back into ya section, and isn't it ironic?
but not the sort to make you laugh,
cuz MC's are building futures by raping the past,
taking a glass of Chardonnay and putting it to your lips,
I'd rather take a razor blade and put it to my wrist
than sell records on the basis that I have to promote
sniffing and selling coke, toting guns and smoking dope,
you're all weaving the rope that you'll hang yourself with
my only consolation is within the hip hop nation is
b-boy elements that can still get me open,
like Graff mags from Berlin, mix tapes from Oakland,
breakers from Whitsetty, plus anything from Tribe
and old school New York that's still got the vibe

<Chorus>

ps, im glad to see some Hip Hop heads in here too, listening to that REAL Hip Hop :D

I saw them a while back and they were underwhelming, to be honest, they couldn't warm up the crowd, disappointing for an Australian act. (BDO '06)
Have any of you listened to The Herd? (another Australian one :) ) I'm not usually one for hip-hop but these guys I like (BDO '07). They were great, they packed out the Hot House

They are not the same at all, I actually use the term hip-hop more than I use rap.

When people ask me, what genre was the Wu-Tang clan in, I say "Hip-Hop.

When I jear rap for some reason I think of people such as MIMS and Unk.

I'm glad there are real hip-hop fans here too. I was really afraid that some guy was going to come around and be like "all ya suk 50 is da best eva!"
Also notice how if you walked up to somebody like Big Daddy Kane and said "who are you?" he wouldn't say "I'm a rapper, he'd say I'm an MC"

Also note that if you asked him what genre of music he produce he would say "hip-hop."

I see you are a true hiphoppa indeed.

I used to be one of the "rap groupies"

I would tell you that the best rapper ever was a guy named 50 cent.
Now what you have said, Hip-Hop is alive more than ever, you just need to know where to look. That got me really thinking.

The T.V. and Radio hide real hip-hop, they force this crap onto us, destroying it. But underground it is alive, and there are people bringing it above ground. We need to get everybody to see the reality, about real hip-hop and how it is better than the pathetic rap nowadays.

I must comment on Lil Wayne saying that he is the best MC ever.

Lil Wayne, you are one of the worst I have ever heard. Your lyrics make me want to shoot myself and your voice is enough to drive a man insane. You will never beat out people like 2pac. SO just stop.

Word, Hip Hop will be back, but we cant let it become mainstream again, well we can but not sell our culture out, or let it be controled or used.

And yeah, Lil Wayne, aint s***. "your ryhmes are Toy nothing but Ying yang" -Rakim

Rap music = Toys that dont have the skills for being in any element of Hip Hop.
