has anybody had one of these besides cooked on a plate?

it was about 4 inches long with little pinchers instead of crayfish claws and they said it could get a foot long and eat fish.
right now it would just be a $5.99 meal for my puffer but at a foot long it would be 4 or 5 meals for my puffer. :-)

are they more interesting than crabs or crays? how big have y'all seen them?

An imported or farmed large Macrobrachium shrimp. They were briefly popular a few years ago. Best as a solitary specimen, best in a breeder-style tank to give them room to grow. They need at least moderately hard, moderately alkaline water, may need calcium supplement and definitely need a drop or two of marine iodine supplement ~monthly. Hikari crab pellets will provide some iodine. Interesting specimen invert.

my bf has a crayfish, and i LOVE IT! he has sooo much character and tries his damndest to get to the top. They may not look like much, but are funny as hell! he keeps his with an oscar about the same size (6"). recommend these guys to everyone with semi-aggressive fish!

I remember seeing this on another mesage board http://www.fishindex.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25453&highlight=prawn

Prawns don't look like good candidates for a community tank,They would make a really cool species tank. I can't believe how big they get.

Thanks for the link Valerie - mine never got that big (the secondary link in that thread to the guy holding the shrimp)- I guess that I under-housed and under-fed. Sigh...

They look really cool. I would love to have one if i could devote a big tank jsut to it. I used to have a crayfish and loved it so this would just be more to love :D They look pretty scary though, like if you were to put your hand in they might eat it. :p

I have never seen them around here though.
