My sis won a fish from a carnival, not sure if it's a goldfish.. there no hint of gold/yellow/orange, it's a grayish color, and.. looks like a platy except huge.

I feel bad for it, it just sits there and probably will die anyways. There is, however, a lake/pond 2 minutes from my house! Would it be a bad thing to let it go into there?

not sure what it is, but yeah, it is bad to let fish go in the wild. its against the law to start off with, and many species are extremly disruptive to local ecosystems.

donate it to a local fish store

Agreed, it is a coment/goldfish. Give it to the pet store. Do not release it into the pond. If it comes to that, euthanize it if no one will take it. The damage it could do in a system is worse. I know that sounds harsh, sorry.

Aw. Never knew it was illegal.

If i give it to a fish store they'd probably put it right into a feeder tank, lol.

Dunno what to do..

Right now it's in the little plastic cage it came with from the fair worth.. $2 tops. lol. kinda like the size of the water area of the overhang filters, except it's clear.

And no thats not my hand or fish, i found that pic on the interweb. lol.

it's still alive! i've been doing the water changes of course. i dunno why she brings stuff like that home. -.-

I dont know the laws on all fish, but the bait shops around here in Mississippi sell goldfish as bait, and yes its live bait, they work great too!!

of course they're feeder fish - how else could the carnivals afford the huge number of deaths that come with putting fish in bowls/barrels and letting people throw ping-pong balls at them?
