I'm growing out two pleco (both are common, one is around 2 1/2 - 3 inches long, the other 3 - 3 1/2), in a ten gallon tank. There are other fish and snails in the tank (the tank is a 10 gallon), but i do weekly 20% water changes religiously.

I'm growing the pleco out until i can't hold them anymore, then trading them into my local store for some store credit. I was wondering how long i can keep 'em in the tank until i should trade them in.

i'd say 5-6". By then they're half the width of the tank and will have a hard time turning around.

You won't likely get much in credit, however, for a fish that size. At best, you could trade straight-up for new 2" fish. LFS usually give 1/3-1/2 of the selling price (i.e. a $10 fish will earn you $3-5 in credit). Not worth it when you factor in food and effort to grow them out.

yes, I've been doing water changes only a couple weeks, but the water has been low, so realistically there's been a 35-45% water change weekly.

I was also thinking 5 - 6 ", and I'm not doing it for the "sweet credit" I'll get, I'm doing it for the love of plecos, obviously.

If your doing it for the love of plecos, you should have them in an appropriate sized tnak, and doing a better water change routine. Give them an environment they can thrive in, not just survive in.
