:mad2:
As I was watching my tank, I just saw my black swordtail nip at the fin of my golden pearl angel. She was resting behind my driftwood with her mate. Now her back fin is slightly shredded towards the end. I, of course, have removed him and put him in my other tank. I am just soooo mad. What can I do for her to make sure she doesn't get some secondary infection on her fin now??

Just keep feeding her a good healthy diet and make sure water is clean and she should be fine!

Watch for more nipping. The best prevention against fin infections like fin rot is to just keep up with your regular maintenece schedule.

Thanks all :) I wasn't aware that a swordtail could be a nipper :( He is in the gourami tank now ;) She will quickly keep him in place ;)

Do you have any female swords? Males are... well males and if you get a few females he will probably divert his attention to the females. If you have 3 females to one male I dpn't think that they will be harassed to death.

Clean water, changed everyday until you see most of it healed. If you're really worried, a bit of melafix/primafix won't hurt.

I'm a noob so take this with a grain of salt. I have only returned one fish for agression. Female black molly if you can believe it. She chased and nipped everyone.

I've owned three black mollies. 2 aggressive males, 1 semi-aggressive female.

I started out with some mbuna's (Malawi cichlids), and wanted something less aggressive. After I found a new home for them, what did I get? Black mollies!!! Little did I know... the dominate molly is every bit as aggressive as any of the cichlids I had.

It is kind of weird but someone returned a swordtail at work because she was terrorizing the entire aquarium. All of the other fish were in a frenzie. He thinks the fish had mental problems. Maybe too much inbreeding. lol

I too learned of molly aggression by experience. Good thing for him I had plans for more tanks.

If the fin is just torn a little bit it should heal on its own. If it is a severe tear I would medicate to prevent further problems. I would either get some female swords for the male before putting him back with the angels or not put him back with the angels. Many fish that are usually not considered aggressive will bother the lacy fins of an angel if given time.
