I'm going out of town, have a bloom happening. did a water change etc, but wondering if I shut off one of my two 28w fixtures (on timer) if the reduced light for a few days will be good or bad for the algae and plants.
yeah, I thought of that. the algae isn't that out of control yet, and it's supposed to be a hot weekend, I don't want to overheat the tank. I also want my otos to be able to see the crab coming!
thanks for the advice. at some point I may try this. My question was, will reducing the light from 56 watts to 28 watts help or hurt the situation? I am not going to black the tank out this weekend.
Algae is supposed to be better at utilizing low light than plants. If this is true, then cutting the wattage would not likely hurt the algae, but may hurt the plants.
I would like plantbrain to verify this theory if possible, as it seems logical.
