Hello all,

In have a trigon 190 Juwel Fish tank its running the standard filter system(600L p/h) full of foam media, also an external filter (Rena XP4) which has foam on the bottom with the rest of the baskets full of bio max, i want to set up a malawi tank with Frontosa's also if possible some shell dwellers is this possible and how many fish can i put in there,

i have bought a load of Coral sand, Ocean rock etc to rase the PH, i also have a breeding pair of convicts in the tank at the moment that are breeding like rabbits, will they be ok in the tank with malawi's frontosa's and shell dwellers?

Can these fish go together, the main fish in the tank will be the frontosa, i was hoping to get a pair then fill it with malawi's and shell dwellers.

please let me know if this is possible

thanks in advance

mike

Unfortunately you want about 75 gallons for a pair of frontosas. They get to 10 inches and more. Ideally you'd keep 4 or 5 in 125 gallons or more. If you like the colouration of fronts, check out neolamprologus tetrecephalus and sexfasciatus which are like mini fronts but stay smaller.

Fronts are also piscevores and would eat shell dwellers.

Strangely, despite size, they are also nervy and would not appreciate the company of the lively & aggressive malawis. Better with other tangayikan fish (calvus/compressicep etc.).

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news :(

Be sure to watch the water requirements for the Tangs and Malawi you are trying to put together.

u might want to put together a stock list and then ask it will give everyone a clearer picture of what u want 2 do. From what i have heard convicts can be quite aggressive when breeding so you might want 2 find a different tank for them.

I wouldn't go with a pair of fronts. Either get 3 or more, or get one.

My friend bred them and even then some of the females woudl end up beat up... and he had I think 1 male and 4 females in there.

Fronts do get big, but they grow SLOW. That is why their is such a big difference in price fromt he 3 inch ones compared to the 7 inch ones.

Fronts aren't supposed to go with malawi cichlids.. but I have seen it down before and the fronts were fine. I would make sure they were bigger than the malawi cichlids because they will grow slow and the others wont.
