I am new to the whole Cichlid world. At first I completely ignored these fish because they weren't girlie enough for me. After seeing some of your guys' pics, I am slowly starting to change my mind. I need a little guidance on what fishies would be a good intro into this world. I am kinda looking for maybe a pair that could be put in my community 20 gal (is this even possible?) and some that could cohabitate with angels in a 75??? I am trying to research this stuff on my own, but being overwhelmed by all the scientific names and sheer number of kinds. There there is that whole African vs. South American thing that is completely confusing me.... Help :)

Rams would be your best bet. They are the most commonly available of the dwarf cichlids and they are sorta girlie too. There's a gold version that you may like, but the blues are nice too.
The other dwarf cichlids would be a good group for you to investigate. I like the cockatoo dwarf. They are small enough for your community tank too.
Severum, festivum, keyhole, dorsiger, curviceps are a few that can go with your angels. Some people will argue that Severum get too big though. You might try some kribensis. Some will tell you they are nippy, but I haven't experienced that.
The best thing to do is find pics that you like and ask about specific fish.
Africans for the most part are higher pH harder water fish. Some come from softer lower pH water, but the majority don't. It would be best to keep Africans and Central/South Americans separate as their water requirements and temperament are opposite ends of the spectrum.

It can be. But i would do 3 or 5 angels. Adjustments may be needed if you get the angels pairing off. Throw in a dozen each of hatchets or rasboras.
