sump?

A sump is another smaller tank connected (via plumbing and a pump) to a larger display tank, it is usually under the display tank. The sump acts as a giant filter, it is usually filled with filter media, and is a place to put things like heaters. A sump is usually used on very large tanks where normal filters would be too small.
