well fellow AC'ers, its been a while since I moved my then 14 inch yellow finned barbs into the 90, and they are now both 18 inches. Thankfully, they appear to have stopped growing now..and I am saving up for an All-glass Brand 150 gallon set up for them. It will afford them a lot more room than they have in the 90..
some new shots, you can see that keeping healthy fish this size in a tank too small for them really is an excercise in aquarium managment LOL:

you can also tell why this tank is a great way to prevent the really aggressive severum from killing everything LOL

Nice, but I disagree.
12 Volt Man

well, its either that or the severum goes in a 30 by himself to sulk all day:)
because thats what happened before..
at least in this tank, he is out and about and eating better than any severum out there! LOL Probably part of why he is so colourful. Because the giants eat and eat and eat, he gets the opportunity to pig out too!

Here is an interesting perspective shot:
compare the 18 inch barbs in the top to the 12 inch normal tinfoil barbs in the 65 underneath..
just goes to show you that an 18 inch fish of the same bodyshape is roughly twice the overall size of a 12 inch fish of the same shape..
you add 6 inches in body length, but you add 4 inches in height and...

Wow, that is a great shot of your HUGE barb...and the bottom tank looks awesome also...:)
12 Volt Man

the bottom tank is way overstocked too though.
all those fish used to be in the 90..but I had to switch things around in order to keep the big barbs..
it was either that or bring them to the LFS which I did not want to do.
I didn't want someone to buy them and then kill them...

I have a rena XP3 filter and an Aquaclear 110 for filtration on the tank. Both rinsed weekly..
I credit the Rena XP3 for allowing me to even keep these fish.
even the aquaclear 110 gets pretty clogged by the end of the week, but the Rena handles the load much better than any HOB filter ever could...
I used to have an aquaclear 70 on there, but it would get clogged in a few days and ended up just being a water circulator...
take some pics of your mono for me!

take some pics of your mono for me!
right now, this is the only good shot of my mono tank (65 gallon) that I have:
they are so quick they end up being a blur in most shots:
I will fiddle around with my camera to try and increase the shutter speed:

what is the red-tailed fish in the 90 with the barbs?
12 Volt Man
06-27-2007, 9:04 PM
its called a pink tailed chalceus.
its a member of the tetra family (south american characins) and he is strictly a surface fish.
I had two of them, which was cool, but one died from an injury when my nephew threw a ball into the tank and he hit the glass at about 90 miles per hour and knocked himself out, and died shortly after...:(

Thanks! I am really looking forward to getting the 150 gallon.
It will be awhile before I get it (have to move to another location before I can get it), but these guys should be with me for a long time provided they don't keep packing on the inches lol

A 180 would be alot better for them than a 150, but there is a big leap in price for a 180 set up from a 150 set up, and I want to get everything brand new - other than using some of the equipment that I have now..
I know I might be able to get a second hand tank, but I would end up spending more in the long run upgrading it to the way I want it.
thats the thing with getting used stuff - you get someone elses idea of a great set up which doesn't always match with your own..
I have priced things out and I should be able to put together a brand new 150 gallon setup (with 2 Rena XP3 filters) for about 1600 canadian (taxes included).
the 180 set up would be a lot more (eg tank alone is 699 for an all glass tank in my area, probably because the glass is a bit thicker), and I doubt I will be able to afford it..
they are going to get the best home I can afford for them..one day..LOL
in the mean time, they will have to continue to be happy and a bit cramped LOL

what are the catfish that you have in there? i cant get a good enough view of them to figure out what they are. Looks like there's three that i counted. One of them is a pleco, common from the pics. But the other two i cant tell. Cause the one with the two dots is not exactly a baby catfish.

:lipssealedsmilie: I would eat them.
